Inverted Florarium: Opening on June 18th at The Center with Artist Bronwyn Minton

JACKSON, WYOMING, June 13, 2025 / Join Jackson Hole Public Art and Center for the Arts for coffee, pastries, and conversation with the artist as we celebrate a striking new installation, Inverted Florarium, made entirely from repurposed paragliding wings on June 18 at 10 am in The Center Courtyard. Local artist Bronwyn Minton will speak about the inspiration for this piece and the process of creating it.

Inverted Florarium explores ecology, resilience, and perspective through softness, inversion, and the playful reimagining of a natural form. A large bloom, inspired by Wyoming’s state flower—the Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja spp.)—hovers, upside down, above a field of colorful blossoms. The flower’s tendrils connect and tether the shapes below. The surrounding glass courtyard functions as a terrarium, framing the installation as both ecosystem and specimen. Minton draws on the tradition of soft sculpture, while infusing the work with an ecological sensitivity and surreal humor. Minton’s artistic practice consistently engages with the intersection of human perception, natural form, and material use. The reclaimed paraglider wing fabric speaks to the transformation of manufactured objects into symbols of interconnection between people and nature. The sculpture’s softness is both material and metaphor—suggesting care, adaptability, and transformation. The play between micro and macro scale—the small wildflower made monumental—encourages viewers to reimagine the quiet power of native plants and the subtle intelligence of ecosystems.

“This was such a fun piece to make! From the scale, to the material, to the location - it is an honor to create a site-specific work for this space. I am also excited to keep adding to it and to have the work change over the year that it will be on display,” commented Minton.

Thank you to the local paragliding community members who donated to this project, including Scott Harris, Geoff Sharp, and Destin Peters. If you would like to donate an old wing to the project, please email robin@jhpublicart.org; Minton hopes to add to the installation during its year-long exhibit. Inverted Florarium is sponsored by the Center for the Arts and supported in part by a grant from Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling.
